Fitness Show Progress

As I said last week I will be keeping you guys informed of my progress and appraised of what is going on with my preparation.

I have decided the show I will enter is going to take place on May 5th 2012. That gives me 16 weeks in order to prepare. At this point I don’t expect to put on much muscle mass but I do expect to make some small shape changes and to get a lot leaner. I will be entering the mens physique category of an OPA show. In regards to physique they are looking for

• Muscularity and Body Condition
Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity should be marked down.
• Stage Presence and Personality
Contestants will be asked to walk in board shorts (shorts must be just above the knee in length and can be one inch below the belly button, no spandex and no logos are permitted on the board shorts however a manufacturer’s logo such as Nike symbol or Billabongs are acceptable.) Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. No lewd acts allowed for example the moon pose. Judges are looking for the contestant with the best stage presence and poise who can successfully convey his personality to the audience.
• Competitors will walk to the center of the stage alone and perform quarter (1/4) turns with optional pose of hand on hip or hand in pocket, face the judges as directed then proceed to the side of the stage.

Comparison Round –
• The competitors will be brought back out in a group and directed to do quarter turns
• Judges will have the opportunity to compare competitors against each other in quarter turns.

I think at a push I could be ready and in that type of condition in 8 weeks. But this is not at a push so it gives me a little more flexibility.

The one thing that I have come to realize with these types of shows is that diet plays one of the largest roles in getting the “look” that you want. These competitions are not actually interested in how fit and strong you actually are. It is all about the look.

The picture at the top of the page was me last week. The picture to the left is me today. I currently weigh 226lb and i expect to see a steady drop in my weight as the weeks progress.

Currently my workouts are total body with one heavy workout day a week(3-6 reps), one moderate weight (8-12), one general conditioning/circuit and 2 core workouts. Over the next weeks I will keep it that way. When I change my program I will let you know.
